In case if it is not possible, then at least have the front legs of the furniture on the area rugs and back legs off. Though, the smaller pieces of the area rugs should also be on your rug.

Don’t skimp the sizes

When people are buying area rugs, they end up choosing too small rugs. This is a big mistake, especially because it will not give your room enough expression. The prime reason why people settle for smaller area rugs is that they cannot afford the higher price tags of carpets. So, it is understandable. Do leave enough space

Ideally, the space on all sides of the area rug should be the same. So, give yourself at least 8 to 24 inches on all the sides. Usually, 18 inches is most common. However, if you have a small room, then you can leave a space as less as 8 inches. Though it is good to not to leave more than that. Otherwise, your area rug will look like a carpet that is not fitting. This would not indeed be a great sight for the eye. Primarily, your main goal should be to center a wool rug in the middle of the room.

Don’t go to small in bedrooms

What is the benefit of an area rug in a bedroom if it does not extent beyond your bed? Chances are that you will always step on the cold floor whenever you get off from the bed in the morning. So, before you go to shop for rugs, make sure that you have done all your measurements.

Basically, the rug should be big enough to extend on all sides of your bed to as much as 12 inches at least. You can go even bigger than that if you want to, but 12 inches keep you quite safe and looks good to the eyes.
